the beatitudes
(AND MY TAKEAWAYS)
The commentary and notes shared in this blog are based on my personal study, experiences, and understanding of Scripture. I’m not a theologian or Bible scholar — just a girl learning and growing in her faith. Always feel free to study the Word for yourself and seek the Lord for deeper understanding. If you feel like I need to adjust anything in my notes, please feel free to reach out! I am always seeking more knowledge and would love to have extra insight on any given topic around my studies.
Thank you!

Poor in spirit means spiritual neediness and dependence on God, not low self-esteem.
Meek means strength under God’s control.
Righteousness here means right relationship with God that spills into right living and justice.
Mercy is compassionate action toward the undeserving.

To be poor in spirit is to know you bring nothing to purchase grace. It is the open hands of faith. The promise is present tense. The kingdom already belongs to people who admit their need.
Begin prayer by naming your need and God’s sufficiency. Try a daily confession: “Father, I need You for everything today.”
Jesus embraced poverty for our sake so we might become rich in Him. See 2 Corinthians 8:9. Cross-refs: Psalm 34:18, Isaiah 57:15.

Not simply grief over loss, but deep sorrow over sin, over brokenness, over what the world has become
Practice “repentant mourning.” Name a specific sin or wound. Bring it to Jesus. Receive His comfort through Scripture and community.
Jesus is the Man of Sorrows who carries our griefs. See Isaiah 53:3–4, John 11:35, Revelation 21:4.
